INTERACT – International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic

interact

INTERACT is a FP7 infrastructure project under the auspices of SCANNET, a circumarctic network of 33 terrestrial field bases in northern Europe, Russia, US, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland. INTERACT specifically seeks to build capacity for research and monitoring in the European Arctic and beyond, and is offering access to numerous research stations through the Transnational Access program.

Our role in INTERACT is mainly associated to two of its so-called Work Packages. A Work Package (WP) is a working unit, composed by smaller tasks that are tightly related. The two Work Packages we are in charge of are: WP5 – Virtual Instrumentation and WP7  – Data Management. At the moment I am focusing my efforts on WP5, more specifically on two components of a wireless data logger network: (i) the radio component that connects a data logger to a wireless network and (ii) the integration of a network of data loggers into a data management infrastructure. I am writing an article in some of these issues at the moment – more details to come soon! 😀
